I’ll be doing two presentations at the West Virginia Writers Fall Conference. This one-day conference is held on November 17 at the Days Inn Conference Center in Flatwoods, WV. My presentations are “Technology for the Technophobe Writer” and “Marketing Your Work on the Cheap”. They’ll be lots of other presentations given and it’s an opportunity to meet other writers, so I hope you’ll be able to make this event. More details on this event will be available at the WV Writers website.

Tribune Article On My Book Signing

062018-spy-author

I had a book signing this Saturday at Consigned Books in Ironton. A reporter and photographer showed up while I was there and stayed for quite some time listening in on my conversations with people getting their books signed. This article is the result of their stay in the bookshop. It’s pretty accurate except for the statement that I’m from New York. I lived in New Jersey, about 1-1/2 hours outside of New York City before I moved to West Virginia, which no doubt is what was behind their confusion.

Book Reading/Signing on June 16

I’ll be at Consigned Books in Ironton, OH on Saturday, June 16 from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM. At 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM I’ll be reading from my novels, including a selection from the novel I’m currently writing, “HPD”. The rest of the time I’ll be available for chatting and signing books. I hope you’ll be able to attend this event.

Consigned Books is a wonderful bookstore with a huge inventory of new and used books. Cindy Black, the owner, is very friendly and charming. A visit to her bookstore is always a pleasure for any book lover.

Pictures from Tri-State Authors Book Fair

On May 19, I attended the Tri-State Authors Book Fair held in the Center Court of Huntington Mall, Barboursville, WV. About 15 other authors from our region also attended. I shared my table with a friend who is a children’s book author, Suzanne Alexander.

Suzanne and I had a great time. Ruby Tuesdays provided all of the authors with a wonderful free lunch, including dessert. Captain McFinn was there for the kids and we had the typical Saturday mall crowds swirling all around us.

I had the opportunity to meet local authors who were new to me, talk with readers of my books, and to sell and sign my books to new readers. As with all book signing events I attend, it was great fun.

My Writing Put to Good Use

Today I received an award from Hospice of Huntington for my services as a Patient Volunteer. I was shocked, but very grateful, to receive it. In the picture below you can’t really see the beautiful little glass angel statuette that I received in addition to the certificate, as it’s mostly hidden inside my big hand!

One of the reasons given for my award is that I wrote a story about being present during the death of one of my Hospice patients. That story is now being used as part of the training material for new Patient Volunteers. It’s very gratifying to see a piece of my writing being put to such good use.

Pictures from Book Signing at Dogwood Arts & Crafts Festival

I had a great time, sold and signed lots of books, and met even more great people. Thanks to all who attended this event and dropped by the Appalachian Authors booth.

The first picture below is from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, and it caught me in a moment of fatigue after signing so many books. It’s funnier than flattering, but that’s the way it goes sometimes!
