6 Days, 5 Nights in Grand Cayman Island in December

Abby and Hailey board American Airlines flight 5955 on Monday morning at 6:41, arriving in Charlotte at 8:20 AM.

Board first-class seats on American Flight 101 at 9:00 AM.

Arrive in Grand Cayman Island at 12:05 PM.

Pick up rental car at Avis office near airport and drive to Ritz-Carlton Hotel. It’s going to be a right hand drive car, so be careful how you drive here. Everyone drives on the “wrong side” of the road here, just like in England.

Check-in and unpack in your room.

You’re just in time for English Tea in the Palm Room.

Head for the hotel’s massive pool and enjoy the 80 degree weather from a lounge chair under a large umbrella. Waiters will come by regularly with offers of drinks and/or snacks.

Now it’s time to go over what kinds of things you both are going to do while you’re on Grand Cayman Island.

You’ll visit Hell and get your passports stamped there.

Visit the Cayman Turtle Centre. The Sea Turtle is the official symbol of the Cayman Islands and they are much revered by the inhabitants.

Of course, you’ll spend plenty of time on Seven Mile Beach.

Be sure to take the boat ride to Stingray City, where you’ll be able to mingle with stingrays in shallow water and snorkel around the island’s barrier reef.

Now it’s time to head into George Town, the biggest city on the island and the capital of the Cayman Islands. You can do some serious shopping at the Island Plaza here!

Be sure to visit Island Jewellers and get a Pandora bracelet and the Sea Turtle charm ONLY available on the Cayman Islands.

Go for nighttime submarine ride off the George Town docks and see some amazing underwater life.

Have a lunch at one of the waterside George Town restaurants.

After a day or two of exploring George Town, it’s time to go for a drive around the island. Head counter-clockwise around the island on the shore road. Just outside of George Town you’ll come to the famous “flip-flop tree”. Legand has it that if you nail a pair of your flip-flops to it, you’ll be drawn back to the island again someday.

Stop for a lunch break at one of the restaurants along the road.

While driving, watch out for the elderly!

Stop at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park and explore the flora and fauna.

At the end of the road you’ll come to Rum Point. There you’ll be able to spend a peaceful day at the beach in a much quieter and more relaxed environment than Seven Mile Beach.

Returning to the Ritz Carlton for a good night’s rest, the next day you can set off to visit one of the best eating spots on the whole island. This tiny beachfront restaurant is a mother and daugther operation that serves some of the best seafood on the island, and you’ll eat it on a picnic table right on the beach.

With Christmas not too far away, you’ll want to see the nighttime parade of boats all decorated in nights celebrating the Christmas season.

It’s finally time to head home. You’ll take an American flight back to Charlotte and then connect to your flight back to Huntington. I hope you’ve had a wonderful trip to this tropical paradise!
